September’s Monthly Intention

by Carolyn Collin September 1, 2016

This month, practice the intentional power of sending love and compassion to yourself, family, friends, foes, animals, bugs, plants, trees, traffic goer’s, and anything else in the World at large. When we practice looking at everything with loving eyes then its much easier to accept and embrace ourselves fully. Our card of the month reads, “Compassion is the passion that arises from the wish that all beings be free from suffering.”

One idea you could incorporate in your morning routine is to sit up in bed with your spine straight, reaching the crown of your head up to the sky. Next, close your eyes and take in about three to six deep cleansing breaths. Notice the weight of your body being fully supported.

On your next inhale, breath in a beautiful rose coloured light while thinking of warm-hearted thoughts about yourself and others. On your exhale, breath out any dark coloured hues while releasing any sad and frosty thoughts. Repeat this for about five to seven minutes before starting your day. This minuscule and humble practice does not require a giant investment. You can take this a step further by keeping track of how this may be influencing your day to day life. Be well beloved.

Things that make you go mmm…

by Carolyn Collin April 14, 2019

Spring has finally arrived and I’m excited! (Though as I write this, Environment Canada has reported a 20-30cm snow fall warning for the city of Edmonton.) The going within and hibernation is over; newness abounds. I am certain this is my favourite season of the year. I sense the qualities of a cleansed mind, body and soul. There’s a tangible hunger in the air and a desire to experience life in a whole new way–such as adding more yum to life.

Suffice it to say, I’ve experienced my share of hardship and now I’m at a period in my life where all things favourable have begun to unearth. It really is up to you and I to take as much duty and care of our own existence. Yes sh*t happens that is outside our control but for the most part we do have a pretty big say. Therefore I propose we all make a long list of things that bring the mmm to our minds and act on it.

My list of mmm looks like this…reading a great book in a nice steaming hot bubble bath, candles lit and blues music playing in the foreground. Pillow talk with the one I’m connected to and care for deeply. Spontaneous trips to the mountains with limited luggage and my kayak in tow. Flat bread home made pizza, with pesto sauce, prosciutto, tomato, arugula and smoky cheese…mmmmm.

What wets your appetite? When do you make time for such things? Can you taste life in the now or do you need to wait until all the chores and to do’s are accomplished?

This Spring my intention is to experience more joy, take ample moments to pause or nap and dance like nobody’s watching (like I’ve done numerous times in my kitchen!) What will you decide to manufacture in the days, months to come? More yuck or more yum?
