Self Care For Life by Skye Alexander, Meera Lester, & Carolyn Dean, MD, ND

by Carolyn September 15, 2015

If you’re looking for some great ideas on how to care for your mind, body and spirit this is the book for you. It’s laid out to provide daily healthful tips on how to nurture and nourish these three important areas over the course of an entire year. The book gathers information from traditions from modern to ancient wisdom (Eastern and Western systems). It’s informative, and provides suggestions throughout. One of my favourite things is it’s daily quote at the top of the page. The lay out is easy to read and the daily time commitment is under 3 minutes.

Weaving Self-Care Into Your Daily Life

by Carolyn April 8, 2016

Taking care of yourself is a three-fold approach that helps to nature and nourish the mind, body, and spirit within the natural course of every day.

Mind:

Take a break from the bad news, and gossip. It’s difficult to find spiritual sustenance and renewal in a World full of negative messages and tension. Commit to turning off the tv, radio, phone and internet one day per week. The weeklong bombardment of negativity from virtually every media outlet can wreak havoc on your mind, body and spirit. Add 10-20 minutes of daily meditation. Hundreds of scientific studies have shown meditation can aid in a plethora of mental, physical, and emotional ills, including coronary problems, cancer, and depression.

Body:

What you put into your body will ultimately be the fuel that either pushes you onward and upward or pulls you downward and backwards. Think before you eat. Ask yourself this question before putting foods or liquids in your body, is what I’m about to ingest going to benefit my body, mind and spirit? How can I care for myself in this moment? Eat and drink for the mind and body!

Spirit:

Seek insight from many sources. Through the ages, people have turned to spiritual traditions to search for wisdom about life’s meaning and purpose. Today’s seekers mine ancient wisdom traditions, science, meditation, and many other avenues. Instead of only sticking to one belief system, explore a variety of sources for guidance.

Radical Self Love by Gala Darling

by Carolyn June 15, 2016

After facilitating this past weeks SOULsisters™ Retreat it solidified in me how much our society needs Self-love material. Thank goodness for the many Self-love Gurus already paving the way out there and teaching the principles found on the topic of complete “Self-Care.” Dare I say, this should be a mandatory subject in our school systems!

I picked up this book a month ago and started reading it last week. The book is broken into 3 parts: “Loving yourself, where it all begins; Loving others, takes what you learned about self-love and expands it out into the universe; Daily Magic, tips for making your world a more magical place.” Now, you might be wondering why I would recommend an unfinished book at this point? In light of the recent extreme violent acts in Orlando, United States, I feel it’s an ab-soul-ute must. A properly nurtured mind and soul could not, nor would not want to carry out these hostile attacks. Its time we take a stand….a stand to love.

People can only give out what’s inside them. I pray for an extreme love movement to take place on our planet. Enough with the hate and blame! We can’t expect certain people, places, and cultures not to retaliate if we are also guilty of doing the same darn thing. No matter how you look at it. Anger begets anger…period.

Nelson Mandela, and Mahatma Ghandi demonstrated this clear understanding as well as the Dalai Lama. My own meditation Guru used to say all the time, “no love for you, no love for anyone else.” We must all be the change we wish to see in the World. If you see a brother or a sister hurting, I feel it’s your duty for “humanity’s sake” to assist in any way you can—big or small. You never know what affect you could have on that person and in turn our “society” as a whole. Saying that, there is the opposite, you never know what would happen if you turned a blind eye. We see this all the time in the news. There are a lot of people yearning for connection and belonging out there.

This book outlines the way to love and care for yourself and then how to love and care for the World at large. I am so passionate about this topic, that I am making it my mission to teach others until the day I make my transition. The World needs each and everyone one of us to get out there and be love and light workers. Please join me by sharing this book with others.
