Madly in Love with Me by Christine Arylo

by Carolyn Collin November 15, 2015

Christine Arylo is a self love guru on a mission with assisting individuals in becoming their own best friend. I held a Self-Discovery Group around this book and noticed how great a need there is for this concept. What you’ll find are ideas on how to facilitate self love and nurturing in your own life.

Note, there are many different facets or branches to self love. The author illustrates this concept through the self love tree which I found to be my biggest take away. Every branch represents an aspect of self love whether it be the branch of expression, honour & respect, pleasure and esteem etc.  We are called to nurture each branch in order for the roots of our self love tree to remain strong and balanced. To this end we are less likely to be impacted by negative forces outside our control.

This little book offers many activities and self rating exercises to gauge where you’re at personally in order to make the necessary changes to grow self love.

Happy reading!

December’s Monthly Intent

by Carolyn Collin December 1, 2015

This month’s intention came about by seeing repetitive number sequences recently, in addition to hearing individuals speak to the phenomenon regarding the meanings surrounding these repetitious numbers. It is said that when we continuously see the same numbers it’s the Universe’s way of trying to tell us something.

One of the website’s I often find myself referring to regarding the meaning of number sequences is Angel Numbers. Here you will find every kind of number combinations and their corresponding message. Another source I use is Doreen Virtue’s Angel Numbers 101. Note this book only takes you to number 999 and doesn’t include a very common number most often seen by many people, that being 11:11.

Take notice this month of recurring numbers popping up in your own life whether they show up through license plates, account numbers, or addresses. Again have fun with it and use your own discernment.

Finding Meaning this Holiday Season

by Carolyn Collin December 8, 2015

As the holiday season approaches, many of us get caught up in the flurry of activity, and stress, that often comes with it: busy shopping-malls, meal-preparation, decorating, letter and card-writing, get-togethers with every single person you know (it feels like), too much food/drink, Christmas caroling, late nights, little exercise, and not enough sleep. Of course we have to do everything we see advertised in the media, don’t we? With pressures like that, is it any wonder so many of us get sick or depressed at this time of year? It can easily become too much to handle.

What’s Important to You?

I’ve certainly been there, and you know what? Maybe this is the year that you decide it’ll be different. How? By asking yourself some powerful questions. Questions that help you to define what is truly important, and meaningful. Doing this will make things much easier in setting your priorities and as a result you can make better choices around your time.

Start by asking yourself these six, and sit with them awhile to see what comes up for you:

What are my core values, and beliefs?

What causes are near and dear to my heart?

What do I want my legacy to be?

What were my most memorable experiences as a child?

Who are my idols, and why do I admire these people?

What inspires me, or truly moves me?

Taking a closer look…

Your values are things that you believe are important, in the way you live and work. They (should) determine your priorities, and how you choose to spend/invest your time. Deep down, they’re probably the measures you use to tell if your life is turning out the way you want it to. When the things that you say and do match – and coincide with your values – life usually feels good. But when these don’t align with your values, that’s when something feels wrong…and frustration starts to nag at your brain…even if you can’t put your finger on exactly why you feel unhappy. That’s because the answer is hidden just below the surface, where your conscious mind cannot go. So take some time to really think about these questions before committing to a million parties and pot-lucks this year. Choose wisely.

Discovering what you value the most…

Another way to approach it could be to rate categories like the following from one to nine. One being least important and nine being most important:

Intimate relationship/partner

Parenting/family

Friendships-socializing

Education-personal growth

Career

Recreation

Spirituality-religion

Physical health

Helping others

Asking the right questions and even using a rating system to prioritize things, can bring about greater awareness and freedom in your life. My hope for you is that you identify what is truly meaningful, so that you may begin to live your life in a way that is more in alignment with it. After all, that’s where personal peace and happiness reside. And remember, if the holiday stresses do start getting to you, I’m just an email or phone call away. : )

The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho

by Carolyn Collin December 15, 2015

Ahhh… a book that can speak to potentially all people. The Alchemist is a story about the journey we must all take but unfortunately not all of us do. That being, the journey within. The author speaks to how we seek to find the answers to our dreams and treasures outside of us in our external environment when it’s been with us all along. This story is touching and inspiring. If you know of someone looking for answers and/or appear to be in a constant search of “something” perhaps this book will help them find solace.

January’s Monthly Intent

by Carolyn Collin January 1, 2016

This month’s intention is about being a hero in your own life. As a human you have the capacity to affect the trajectory of your life by the stories you tell yourself. What experiences have you gone through that may have crippled or stifled your growth and opportunities? What meaning did you assign to these events? What did you come to believe about yourself because of what happened?

This months card asks you to be curious and take a look at these interpretations and see if they’ve had a disempowering effect on your life. Thereafter decide if its worth rewriting your script in such a way that will empower you. Perhaps use your experience to become an advocate for others. In doing so, a new meaning may be attributed to the situation and potentially have an overall positive affect on your life. Your mind is a tool, use it to your benefit. It’s never too late to go from victim to hero!

I wish you the best that life has to offer in 2016. Happy New Year!

5 Signs You May be Experiencing a Spiritual Awakening

by Carolyn Collin January 8, 2016

Going through challenging times lately?

You could potentially be experiencing a spiritual awakening…how exciting and delicious!

An awakening of this sort typically occurs with some kind of painful-catalyst type of event. Examples would be: a birth, a death, a breakup, an accident or illness, loss of a job, other major changes, etc…

The World As You Knew It Has Shifted…

Okay, I have to be honest with you…it often feels like the complete opposite of fun. It’s one of those life changing, Earth shattering opportunities where the ground beneath your feet feels unstable and recovery onto solid ground may take some time. You might even feel like reprieve will never come.

I have been walking this path for a year now, and its been uncomfortable as hell. Some days I wish I could just crawl back under the warm, cozy covers, forget everything that’s happened, and go back to the way I was…asleep. At the same time, I intuitively know its all for my benefit, and for those that I have the privilege of connecting with. It’s ok to be afraid..and yes, you still have to unwrap the gifts (experiences) you have been given in order to be able to enjoy life more fully.

Are You Going Through A Dark Night of The Soul?

The following are 5 signs that you may be experiencing a spiritual awakening:

1) A yearning to escape, to go within and find new meaning, new purpose and a spiritual connection.

2) Loss of interest in activities or things that used to bring you comfort but no longer have the same effect.

3) Waves of extreme emotionally pain and discomfort.

4) Changes in one’s prayer, meditation and spiritual practice.

5) The right-brain (intuitive) turns up its volume and the left-brain (logical) dims out and/or fogs up.

I’ve provided five signs here, but there are many others. You can find more information on this topic on the internet or at your local library.

One Day At A Time, This Too Shall Pass…

If you find yourself encountering any of these symptoms, I encourage you to hold on my friend! You are in for some profound personal shifts! Let the experience cleanse and purify your being. When you need help, involve a good friend to assist you along, hire a life coach, journal and remind yourself that you are safe in the present moment. Breathe deeply. Remember that this too shall pass. Take it one day at a time…one moment at a time if necessary.

The strength to survive and thrive is within you now. I know that if you have the willingness to face the fears and the discomfort, absolute peace, love and truth will be revealed.

Ego-Less Self by Cardwell C. Nuckols, Ph.D

by Carolyn Collin January 15, 2016

I loved this book! I have been reading since my early twenties and I must say this has been one of my top favourite reads.

In terms of understanding the “Ego” and it’s function, Dr.Cardwell C. Nuckols does an exemplary job. This information is worth knowing inside and out. Here’s a taste: “The ego is like clouds in the sky. The Self is like that sun that is always there behind the clouds. The clouds are the shades that block the ability to see the sun. As clouds break apart and begin to move away, the sun or “that which you are,” shines through. The spiritual search involves discovering and removing each piece of software or cloud. You do not need to add a thing. You already have it all.”

I will personally be re-reading it again and again and running Self-Discovery Groups centred around this book. As stated on the front cover, the Author commits to helping you achieve peace & tranquility beyond all understanding. If that peeks your interest I urge you to either rent it from your local public library or purchase a copy by clicking the link below. I ordered my copy a few weeks ago. Enjoy!

February’s Monthly Intent

by Carolyn Collin February 1, 2016

This month’s intention brings to mind the natural flow of water. In this case I want you to think about being in the presence of a breathtaking waterfall. Watching the water effortlessly move around and over objects in its path. The waterfall card is here to serve as a reminder this month to work with what is. You are being called to surrender like water and carve your way through situations that show up. The waterfall demonstrates power and yet softness. Move with life as its presented with ease and grace. Water doesn’t stop flowing because it meets an obstacle in its path, it forges on adapting to natural laws.

Approach this month with a fluid like movement. Try not resist to what shows up as this will only create more tension. Instead trust, relax and yield to what is happening. In times of high stress remember to up your self-care.  You may decide to sit in quiet contemplation, enjoy a hot bubble bath, and read a good book or whatever else brings you peace.

Enjoy this month and Happy Valentines Day!

Got Mentors?

by Carolyn Collin February 8, 2016

Has there ever been a time in your life when you felt down and out?

Or ever questioned your worth and purpose?

On the other hand, have you ever been in the presence of someone who made you feel you could be, do, and have anything you truly wanted in life? And that nothing was impossible?!

Create A Team of “YOU” Supporters!

Of course, we all have encountered these types situations and emotions to varying degrees. The key to moving through these experiences instead of getting stuck in them is having the right team in your corner. I personally have worked with a set of mentors throughout my life. They’ve guided me out of my own pits of despair, when everything seemed to be going “wrong”, and helped me navigate and move myself up to the next highest level…even when I didn’t feel like it. And for that, I am so grateful.

Invest in You…

Engaging and hiring a mentor or coach is an investment in yourself and your future. They can lift you out of self doubt and frustration, and bring about a fresh new perspective you hadn’t previously considered. Not only that, mentors can also be helpful in all walks of life: in sports, health, industry/business, government, relationships and even in your own back yard (gardening anyone?). Let’s face it, we’re never 100% on our game all the time. Mentors can help you bridge that gap when you’re running on the lower end of your potential, so you can get back to fully sharing your gifts with others.

Do You Want More Out of Yourself and Life?

So when you look at it that way, working with one is more than just an investment, it can be an act of self-love, and a great contribution to the world.

So tell me: who have been your mentors? Do you have an uplifting and inspiring story to share? Please comment below. I love those stories : )

The Surrender Experiment by Michael A. Singer

by Carolyn Collin February 15, 2016

As I walk this spiritual path it becomes more clear to me that life has been brilliantly serving my highest good since I was born. Michael A. Singer speaks of the path to surrendering and trusting life’s process rather than fighting against it.

I borrowed this book from a friend who persuasively encouraged me to take it home as she advised I wouldn’t be able to put it down. I woke up on a Saturday morning and read up to Chapter 29. She was right! It was a compelling story about the author’s journey with the intention of surrendering to what is. A few of my favourite lines in the book are, “I had to let go of myself and something very special had followed. I was willing to face loneliness and fear and not grab for relief” and “liberation at any cost.”

Michael A. Singer speaks about how important freeing himself from himself meant. His aim was to do anything to get to a place where he felt total internal peace–liberation at any cost. What he experienced, like many of us experience at some point in our lives is the dark night of the soul. It inspired me to know that I wasn’t the only one that felt the fire of spiritual purification.

The book is a quick and easy read and may leave you with a new way to view your own life.
