Write It Down, Make It Happen by Henriette Anne Klauser

by Carolyn Collin June 15, 2015

I can’t say enough about what this book has done for my life. Henriette Anne Klauser gives practical advice and ideas throughout on finding what you want and getting it! I recall an exercise I did wherein I wrote down my dream of what I wanted to create in my life. I tucked it away in a cabinet completely forgetting about it. It wasn’t until 5 years later upon clearing out a few files that I read a letter I wrote to myself wherein I was pleasantly surprised to find out that most of everything that I had “written down” came to fruition.

The author explains that “the important thing is to do something-anything that propels you forward, keeps the dream fresh in your reticular activating system, so you will be attuned to signs, start collecting evidence.”  Completion crept up on me and that’s what it can do for you when you get clear about what you want and write it down. When we commit to writing down what we intend to create we activate our reticular activating system but also the Universal intelligence to assist us in our quest.

Peaks and Valleys by Spencer Johnson, M.D.

by Carolyn Collin July 15, 2015

The author discusses how to make good and bad times work for you at work and in life. I have throughly enjoyed Spencer’s writing as his books are easy reads but powerful and offer learning through parables. I find that story telling allows the message to become fully incorporated thus creating positive shifts in ones life.

The take away for me was explained through the purpose of a peak which is meant to celebrate life and the purpose of a valley which is meant to teach us about life. The book offers how we can move from a valley into a peak and also how to move through our illusions and fears. Having these life skills is crucial to our well being, as I have yet to meet a human being without having experienced their own peaks and valleys.

Self Care For Life by Skye Alexander, Meera Lester, & Carolyn Dean, MD, ND

by Carolyn Collin September 15, 2015

If you’re looking for some great ideas on how to care for your mind, body and spirit this is the book for you. It’s laid out to provide daily healthful tips on how to nurture and nourish these three important areas over the course of an entire year. The book gathers information from traditions from modern to ancient wisdom (Eastern and Western systems). It’s informative, and provides suggestions throughout. One of my favourite things is it’s daily quote at the top of the page. The lay out is easy to read and the daily time commitment is under 3 minutes.

The Dark Side Of The Light Chasers by Debbie Ford

by Carolyn Collin October 15, 2015

“Reclaiming your power, creatively, brilliance, and dreams” that’s what this book is about. If you’ve never seen “The Shadow Effect” movie you can find it on youtube. It’s worth a watch.  It’s speaks to the phenomenon of our shadows. These are the aspects we keep hidden from people that we wouldn’t want anyone to know about. We do this because we have a belief that if anyone knew about these qualities we wouldn’t receive acceptance and love. The problem with hiding our authentic nature is that we become out of alignment with our true self.  In addition, we reject others that display these qualities.

Debbie explains that our so called weaknesses may in fact be hidden strengths. She offers examples of the gifts inside our dark side in order to reclaim our wholeness. This book has been spoken highly of by Deepak Chopra and Marianne Williamson.

Madly in Love with Me by Christine Arylo

by Carolyn Collin November 15, 2015

Christine Arylo is a self love guru on a mission with assisting individuals in becoming their own best friend. I held a Self-Discovery Group around this book and noticed how great a need there is for this concept. What you’ll find are ideas on how to facilitate self love and nurturing in your own life.

Note, there are many different facets or branches to self love. The author illustrates this concept through the self love tree which I found to be my biggest take away. Every branch represents an aspect of self love whether it be the branch of expression, honour & respect, pleasure and esteem etc.  We are called to nurture each branch in order for the roots of our self love tree to remain strong and balanced. To this end we are less likely to be impacted by negative forces outside our control.

This little book offers many activities and self rating exercises to gauge where you’re at personally in order to make the necessary changes to grow self love.

Happy reading!

The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho

by Carolyn Collin December 15, 2015

Ahhh… a book that can speak to potentially all people. The Alchemist is a story about the journey we must all take but unfortunately not all of us do. That being, the journey within. The author speaks to how we seek to find the answers to our dreams and treasures outside of us in our external environment when it’s been with us all along. This story is touching and inspiring. If you know of someone looking for answers and/or appear to be in a constant search of “something” perhaps this book will help them find solace.

Ego-Less Self by Cardwell C. Nuckols, Ph.D

by Carolyn Collin January 15, 2016

I loved this book! I have been reading since my early twenties and I must say this has been one of my top favourite reads.

In terms of understanding the “Ego” and it’s function, Dr.Cardwell C. Nuckols does an exemplary job. This information is worth knowing inside and out. Here’s a taste: “The ego is like clouds in the sky. The Self is like that sun that is always there behind the clouds. The clouds are the shades that block the ability to see the sun. As clouds break apart and begin to move away, the sun or “that which you are,” shines through. The spiritual search involves discovering and removing each piece of software or cloud. You do not need to add a thing. You already have it all.”

I will personally be re-reading it again and again and running Self-Discovery Groups centred around this book. As stated on the front cover, the Author commits to helping you achieve peace & tranquility beyond all understanding. If that peeks your interest I urge you to either rent it from your local public library or purchase a copy by clicking the link below. I ordered my copy a few weeks ago. Enjoy!

The Surrender Experiment by Michael A. Singer

by Carolyn Collin February 15, 2016

As I walk this spiritual path it becomes more clear to me that life has been brilliantly serving my highest good since I was born. Michael A. Singer speaks of the path to surrendering and trusting life’s process rather than fighting against it.

I borrowed this book from a friend who persuasively encouraged me to take it home as she advised I wouldn’t be able to put it down. I woke up on a Saturday morning and read up to Chapter 29. She was right! It was a compelling story about the author’s journey with the intention of surrendering to what is. A few of my favourite lines in the book are, “I had to let go of myself and something very special had followed. I was willing to face loneliness and fear and not grab for relief” and “liberation at any cost.”

Michael A. Singer speaks about how important freeing himself from himself meant. His aim was to do anything to get to a place where he felt total internal peace–liberation at any cost. What he experienced, like many of us experience at some point in our lives is the dark night of the soul. It inspired me to know that I wasn’t the only one that felt the fire of spiritual purification.

The book is a quick and easy read and may leave you with a new way to view your own life.

Verbal Judo: The Gentle Art of Persuasion by Thompson, George

by Carolyn Collin March 15, 2016

If you’re looking to become a great communicator in all areas of your life, this is the book for you. The Author has many clear and logical concepts in order to help you engage in conversations with people with the sole purpose of reducing conflict, and increasing cooperation.

I believe the stories peppered throughout, assist the reader in understanding how effective communication works. Steps and acronyms are provided with each new view, for the sake of integrating the ideas fully in ones life.

Don’t be caught up in conversational disasters! This book should be kept within arms reach, like a pocket buddy. Its the kind of substance we should have learnt in school at a young age but didn’t. Did you know that there are five basic tools to generate voluntary compliance?!

You’ll have to read the book to find out! ; )
